What are the Physical Symptoms of Anxiety?
Anxiety affects different people in different ways. There are many different physical symptoms of anxiety. Some of
the more common symptoms that are experienced by those with mild to severe anxiety related problems are discussed
in the article below.
If you experience these symptoms frequently, then you may have anxiety related issues in your own life. Just as
there are different physical symptoms of anxiety, there are also many different options available when it comes to
treatment.
Panic Attacks
A panic attack can range in length, severity, and scope. It can be something as simple as hyperventilating or
severe enough that it cases the victim of these attacks to faint. These panic attacks can be quite severe and many
people who experience them go to great lengths to avoid situations where these attacks may be triggered.
Rapid Heartbeat
In addition to a rapid heartbeat you may experience and erratic heartbeat. This is also often one of many symptoms
included in a panic attack that is brought on as a result of anxiety. This, when combined with chest pains—another
symptom of an anxiety attack—may closely resemble a heart attack. It is best, if you suspect a heart attack, to err
on the side of caution.
Nausea
Anxiety is often triggered by certain situations or events. Stage fright is a common example of anxiety that
includes the wonderful addition of nausea into the mix—as if the anxiety and overriding sense of panic were not
enough. Even without nausea, stomach troubles are not at all unrelated to an anxiety attack.
Dizziness
This may be accompanied by a flash of intense hot or cold. In more severe cases the victim will faint or pass out.
Other times, the dizziness will lead to nausea, which is another symptom of anxiety. The dizziness alone is often
not enough to deter you from your normal routine. However, in combination with other physical symptoms of anxiety,
dizziness can be the final straw.
Difficulty Breathing
If you've watched the old television shows that have people breathing into paper bags in stressful situations you
may have some clue as to how breathing is impacted when anxiety is a problem. Breathing problems may not require a
paper bag to work through but learning deep breathing exercises or meditation can help you get through the moments
of extreme anxiety.
These physical symptoms of anxiety are not by any means inclusive. There are some symptoms that will be unique to
each individual and you may or may not experience one or all of these symptoms during the course of an anxiety
attack. If you suspect that you are suffering from anxiety and recognize one or more of these symptoms then you may
have reason to seek help for your anxiety.
