Finding the Right Panic Disorder Treatment for You
Finding the right panic disorder treatment that will best meet your specific and unique panic and/or anxiety needs
may not seem like the simplest of tasks. Yet, taking the time to do just that can mean a world of difference in the
success of your treatment, the severity of your attacks, and the duration of each individual attack. The more you
can do to reduce the number of attacks the better. When you can go one step further and make the attacks less
severe or shorten the length of the attacks you've achieved even more. Over time, the hope is that the panic
disorder treatment course you decide to follow will stamp out these attacks all together allowing you to live a far
more productive life than you may have thought possible prior to treatment.
Counseling
This is often a positive first step in the right direction for those who suffer from panic disorder. As far as a
panic disorder treatment, counseling is not the fastest acting method of treatment though it can have the most
profound impact. The reason for this is that counseling addresses the source of the panic disorder rather than
simply treating the symptoms or glossing over them. By learning what it is that triggers the panic attacks that
paralyze you, you can take active steps to rationalize the entire process. Some use immersion therapy that requires
you to confront your fears in order to recover, others use gentler methods, combined with medication.
Exposure Treatment
When it comes to finding a panic disorder treatment, exposure treatment is one of the most feared, and most
effective, options for many people who suffer from panic disorders. There are two types of exposure therapy. One
that literally floods you with exposure to the situations that bring on your attacks and one that gradually exposes
you to these experiences. The idea being that by confronting what you fear most, it will lose its capacity to
frighten you. It is effective but can be traumatic in its own right. This should never be done without your
knowledge and/or consent.
Herbal Medications
Herbal medications can be used in order to minimize the impact of triggers. It is important to remember that when
you use herbal medications as a panic disorder treatment that you are treating the symptoms and not the illness.
These can be very effective means of treatment but unless you address the trigger of the attacks you will depend on
the medicine to prevent them.
There is no absolute right or wrong method of panic disorder treatment. What works for one person may not work for
others. The best you can do is find the treatment for panic disorder that works best for you and your unique
condition.
